Entering a university is a step into the unknown – even if a student has a successful high school and passed a high school diploma, something completely different is now waiting for him. Not only is the new environment important, new classmates and teachers, but above all a completely different approach to teaching. A high proportion of self-study is actually expected to be high, with which many teachers were afraid of students already in high school: “Nobody will be like that with you!” Is a sentence whose truth must be confirmed by every beginner. So how to prepare and how to proceed during the first year in order to maximize the probability of successful referral?
First of all, the student should not underestimate the preparation in advance. Even during the holidays, it is advisable to study the school’s website, on the map, or even better to walk through the campus, see individual school workplaces, find out the transport links between the dormitories and individual faculties – it is not unusual for classrooms to be in one faculty throughout the city. Once a student has access to a learning information system, he / she should examine it thoroughly.
It is advisable to go through the study program, individual subjects, requirements for them. As soon as the school year starts and the students attend the first lectures, they throw themselves in the library in bulk and search for as much script and literature as possible. It goes without saying, however, that the library has a limited number of copies and so the known “first come, first served” is true. The laggards will have no choice but to buy all the necessary documents – here, however, colleagues from the higher grade who do not need the textbooks from the freshman may be a suitable source. As regards the fulfillment of study obligations, so-called credit system works at many schools – individual subjects are awarded with a certain number of credits; It is true that more demanding subjects are evaluated by higher number of credits, less demanding, or rather marginal from the point of view of the studied field, they will bring less credits. The exams are then a separate chapter that students are most concerned about. The worst for them is usually the first one, for they have no idea what they are going to. It is important to break down the dates of individual examinations, to use the lessons at which professors are sometimes more lenient and, above all, to leave nothing at the last minute – especially writing seminar papers, which are a requirement for credit, but also for individual exams.
